What is buddying?

Buddying is a partnership in which one buddy provides friendly help, guidance, support and encouragement to the other buddy.

What is the Wessex Buddies scheme?

A voluntary scheme which offers buddying to ST1-3 trainees and newcomers to the deanery...
• Career pathway advice including 
• Exams
• CVs 
• Transitions 
• LTFT decisions 
• Guidance for quality improvement projects and research/publications.

The scheme complements the educational support provided by Clinical and Educational Supervisors.

What buddying isn't...

  • A platform for clinical discussions
  • Educational supervision
  • Remedial support for trainees in difficulty
  • Professional counselling

What the Wessex Buddy scheme offers

  • A voluntary, deanery-wide scheme in which level 1 paediatric trainees or newcomers to the deanery are buddied by level 2 and 3 trainees 
  • Training for senior buddies (initial and ongoing)  
  • Matching process – based on junior buddy choice 
  • Ongoing support for all participants
  • Referral pathway for concerns
  • Links with Thames Valley and Wessex Leadership Development and the RCPCH mentoring networ
